Being a mom is a gift.

Reading a story I was sent from Make-A-Wish Foundation about a boy’s wish filled me with tears. His wish was for his mom to have a wedding. When this child became ill with cancer his mom stopped planning her wedding. The story stops my heart and fills me with sadness and joy.

It causes me to think about my own relationship with my son. As a single mom, all my time and energy is devoted to him. Actually, just as a mom I am so dedicated to him. I’m fortunate to have a healthy child. Thank you lord! I know my son would probably do the same as this child. This is why his story is so touching. His mom gave up everything to focus on making her child well. I wouldn’t stop short of that either.

A few weeks back my son called me on the phone while I was travelling to go home to him and asked what size ring I wear. What? “Mom what size ring do you wear?” “I guess a 6 1/2.” Before I could ask why he hung up. When I arrived home I asked him what that question was about. He told me he went online to order my Christmas gift and realized I deserved much more and better than what was originally going to be bought. He went to Zales website and ordered me a ring. My 13 year old ordered me a $250 ring with his checking account. I couldn’t help but laugh. The laugh being described as funny but heartfelt and very touched by his act of kindness and gratitude for all I do for him and have been to him. I raised a beautiful child with compassion, kindness and respect.

The next day, still in shock from his reasons for the purchase, I again asked to explain how his brain was ticking and made him do what he did. It’s a rather expensive purchase for a child. He just wanted to give me something special. In his eyes I deserve much more than I get.

Priceless.

Love = a son + a mother.

This can not be bought.
