I took off Friday to bake a few things for a party I was going to Saturday night and to bring my son to Brooklyn to attend a paintball trip. He’s going to stay all week with me. I’m so excited! The bond we share is one to be envied. We are very close and open with each other. I raised him well with respect and integrity. He’s a good boy. He had a blast on his paintball trip yesterday making memories with his friends. He had several stories to tell me about his adventure. I’m just happy he’s happy and had a great time! He bought himself three smoke grenades at the paintball place. He used one there and brought home two. His final story of the night is about him lighting up one of the smoke grenades outside the house causing half of the block to be covered in smoke. A girl called 911 and 5 firetrucks and one cop car showed up. Oh boy! I’m proud of him for stepping out of his usual good boy, follow the rules boy self and having a little devious fun. However, the firetrucks and police showing up is not cool. She didn’t need to make that call. She watched him light it and laugh. There were other people there who were aware of the situation and they had no problem about it. All in all I’m glad he’s not in trouble and no one was hurt. He won’t be doing that again; not in Brooklyn anyway.
As for the party – it was great! It was a gathering of friends to say good-bye to the house one of the men own because he is selling it. The night consisted of cocktails, yummy bites and delicious dessert. I made the dessert. I made cheesecake squares topped with dulce de leche; chocolate thumbprint cookies with dulce de leche; and shortbread cookies. I attempted to make the dulce de leche from scratch but it wouldn’t thicken up. It tasted good but was not thick and caramel like so I used a store bought brand instead. Perfect! The cheesecake squares were a hit. Try it for yourself from Bon Appetit http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/2010/06/dulce_de_leche_cheesecake_bars They were delicious! I will be making this again. Even the chocolate cookies were a hit! If there is one thing I enjoy it’s baking or cooking for dear friends and loved ones.

It’s been a great weekend for both of us. Now back to the grind tomorrow. He’ll be busy with friends this week and Wednesday they will all go to see the Transformers. I wish I could skip work and go with them. I love going to the movies and eating popcorn. One of my other favorite things about a visit to the movie theatre is seeing the coming attractions. On my last visit to the theatre I saw The Hangover 2 with my son and one of his friends. We had a good time and then ate German food afterwards. I’ll leave this trip just for the boys. I’m lucky my son thinks I’m cool and doesn’t mind me being around him or his friends. It is a rare occurrance that I am hanging around his friends but atleast when it does happen he isn’t embarassed or whatever 13 year old boys feel about there moms. We don’t share those usual stereotypes in our relationship. I didn’t want that and I don’t live my life that way.
Sweet wishes to all!
