Recipe Review & Slideshow Memoir

I went through some of my recipes last night making notes on how they fare. I never had the chance to do it before. I also added a few new ones. I can’t wait to get back in the kitchen! I would like to take one pastry recipe a week and make it several times if needed. I would make it the first time and see how it tastes, looks and holds up pertaining to the baking ingredients, baking time, consistency and appearance. If I am happy with the results the first time then I can move on or make notes on other possibilities for the recipe. If I’m not happy with it then notes are made on why and how I can improve the recipe. Either step can bring me to creating again the next night or for several nights. I have wanted to do this for a while now but didn’t have the time or the kitchen to carry it out. My kitchen is upstate and I’m split between the city and the country due to various reasons which take up my time. Since I won’t be back to school till the fall, I can work on my pastry recipes and skills. I truly love to bake for myself, family and friends. My passion shines through in all I do in the kitchen and can be tasted in the food.
I’m a foodie (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=foodie). I’m a foodie because all I think about is food. I love to plan menus. I love to think about what I can create in the kitchen. This is very exciting to me. I not only think about pastry but I’ll think about a full course from the appetizer to the main dish and culminate with my favorite part dessert. Dessert is where I can truly create a masterpiece of art. Dessert can be beautiful, colorful, artsy and tasteful. This art of mine will be a work to reckon with the rest of my life. I’m okay with that.

Once I’m walking I plan to make a German meal for my son. He has an interest in German culture. We do have a small portion of German in us from my mother. I want to make a Black Forest Cherry Cake (Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte). I have never made this before. It’s a stunning cake. For the meal I will make German Meat Turnovers (German Bierocks) which is chop meat sautéed with garlic, onion and cabbage then placed in a piece of raw sourdough and baked; Potato Pancakes (German Kartoffelpuffer) made with Yukon gold potatos, and nutmeg then fried served with Apple Compote which consists of apples cooked down with spices till soft. I will also prepare a Creamy Chive Sauce which is made of sour cream and chives to accompany the potato pancakes.

I can taste this now. I wish I could make it but as soon as I can my son and I will be happy people –Gluckliche Menschen.

Try a recipe for yourself – Black Forest Cherry Cake.
